Wynwood Art Walk July 14, 2012
I missed June’s art walk so I guess I may have been a little desperate for some Miami art culture. Luckily July’s art walk came along in a nick of time yet if I remember correctly, in some past summers art walk took a break? Anyhow it’s good that it now runs year round and hasn’t lost its flair yet. A lot goes on in the compact area that is Wywood so if you’re not paying close attention its easy to miss some of the art.
July’s Wynwood art walk proved quite enjoyable there were a number of fresh shows and some new street art along with the staple on-going exhibits. The streets were bustling as food trucks lined along NW 2nd Ave. and music blared out of speakers as DJs spun on the sidewalks. It was warm out, well yeah it’s summer in S. Florida, so it was difficult to spend too much time in some of the smaller packed galleries. As usual to avoid the crowds one must get there early I’d say at 5pm to really catch it all without much interruption, by 7pm it’s crazy busy! Here is some of what I saw and enjoyed the most.
This piece was on display at 004 Connec graffiti art store interesting since this months art walk had a lot of Warhol themed shows but then again Warhol inspired themes are consistent through out most contemporary art.
Fun Yarn bomb around a light post, it would be cool to see more of this in Miami.
At Greg Shienbaum Gallery pieces by Clandestine Culture a sign of things to come in an upcoming solo show at the gallery. These were on display along with pieces by the likes of Warhol and Lichtenstein . Next month on August 9th GS Gallery will host AHOL Sniffs Glue, Hit & Run Show titled after a recent incident the artist experienced, not to be missed.
The best part of Wynwood is the art outside the galleries. These heads caught my eye reminding me of something you’d see on a Totem pole, really great shading on these.
So glad I made it to the Eleazar Delgado Studio which surprisingly I hadn’t been to previously. This beautiful piece really struck me with its depth and soul.
Brian Butler’s Get Lost show at Product 81 Creative Lab opened at last month’s art walk. This is a truly fun, a little campy and interactive show with a mini golf theme , the paintings are eye catching with familiar childhood symbols mixed with more contemporary ideas and a feel good pastel color palette.
This is why we go to Wynwood as you’re walking the streets you can catch amazing art in the midst of creation, so Awesome. Love the angry cupcake!
