Wynwood Art Walk in May

Wynwood Art Walk in May

Wynwood Art Walk has grown exponentially. Though out Wynwood many changes have taken place. Concrete was laid out in the food truck area and in turn the fees went up so there are less food trucks. Good in way, less to choose from and more space to walk; there are craft vendors in the food truck area as well. I saw a pretty cool lamp maker that makes customized plastic outdoor lamps. I made a mental note to go back to and check them out next time. There are now more lots where you can pay $10 to park but there is still free street parking early and further out if you get there after 7:30p. Many galleries are no longer offering free booze which makes things a bit less crazy and I guess more art-centric. As usual the crowds are light earlier on and increase as the night rolls on.

We mostly came out this time for art walk to see the Clandestine Culture show at Gregg Shienbaum Gallery. As well as to see the David Walker show and meet some friends for dinner.  We arrived in Wynwood a little before 7pm and it was nice out- not too many people, good parking and great Miami weather.

The Clandestine Culture show did not disappoint, bigger and better than the last. The pieces show a nice evolution and are more dimensional. We actually got to meet the artist which was a treat since he is usually not out and about socializing.

Our next stop was at the Robert Fontaine Gallery for the David Walker show. Wow the showers of color in the pieces and mostly done in aerosol. These portraits show an amazing amount of can control. One after the other were all consistent in style and technique.

On our last stop for some grub we ventured back for the second time to Mmmm. This café with its tropical chic décor is simple yet tasty as the name implies. Mostly open faced sandwiches and salads are featured on the menu. The service is good we had the same server from last time a very nice Latina.  It might have been 8pm and we had no problem getting a table. Nice conversation with friends, people watching, and two bottles of wine later we off back to our suburban oasis. Well, we had to make an appearance at a little party on the way home.
