Sounduo at Funky Budhha In Boca Raton

Sounduo at Funky Budhha In Boca Raton

A show hosted by BLP, Jolt Radio and SMFO featuring three Miami bands Sounduo, Dusthead and Freq brought the sounds of Dub to Boca Raton this last weekend. It all took place at the Funky Buddha Lounge and Brewery, proving to be an entertaining trip into a genre which is really at the forefront of EDM.

Sounduo

Finding out about the show on Facebook at the last minute while driving back home to Boca from Miami was perfectly timed and unexpected since good local live music shows don’t often take place in Boca. Arriving there around 9 pm seemed perfect, OK maybe a little early, but there were two openers before the headliner, Sounduo, so it was time to have a few brews and enjoy the show.

Dusthead

The first band, Freq, played a few good tunes but really didn’t hit the mark. The second band Dusthead charmed the crowd with their earthy, trippy sounds. I’ve seen them play before and it’s always been a good experience, in larger venues they offer a much grander performance even including beautiful dancers in elaborate costumes. They played a groovy sitar set including all their usual electronic, rhythmic, tribal sounds which take the listener on a spiritual journey.  Next up was Sound Duo.

Just having discovered Sound Duo recently while doing some research on Florida Djs, I went to their SoundCloud page and played their music while continuing my research.  Their sound is quite original, chill yet funky. The live experience was impressive as they brought a great amount of energy to the small stage.  Their transitions were smooth and not overwhelming with too much of sound explosions typical of dub-step yet they created contagious bass lines while the drummer executed well on the beats.  I guess that’s why they’re described more as post dub.

Overall the show proved truly entertaining even though there should have been more of a crowd considering it was Saturday night.  Some dancing would have really put the music to its full use.  Regardless, it’s Boca so it’s encouraging to see some good live music in these parts.  The Funky Buddha offers an excellent venue for bands and music goers with a great selection of beers, teas and hookahs. Looking ahead, it’ll be great to experience Sound Duo at a well attended show where one can feel their vibe flowing through the crowd, probably in Miami!
