Save and Be Healthy Through Organic Food Couponing

Save and Be Healthy Through Organic Food Couponing

Couponing seems to be a huge trend at the moment, evidently with the lagging economy people are looking to save at the grocery store. Often when I go to the store to buy what seems like just a few items I end up spending over $80. I prefer eating organic so that makes the grocery bill even higher. Eating organic is important because it can potentially save you money when it comes healthcare costs.  What seems to be an issue is the lack of organic coupons in the Sunday paper, so I tried searching the web for organic coupons and to my surprise I discovered there are indeed a lot of deals out there for organic foods.

There are several manufacturer and groceries sites where one can find organic coupons including Mambo Sprouts, Whole Foods, Cascadian Farms and Horizon. You can also follow a blog such as www.organicdeals.com which matches weekly specials with coupons.  Another great blog is www.couponing101.com, this one teaches you how start couponing by offering tips on how you can find deals, organize and prepare.

Coupons are also available for restaurants and retail stores, www.survivingthestores.com lists these. I was surprised to find Starbucks there except it wasn’t coupon it was a Frappuccino special they had going for two weeks. Not organic but I do enjoy Starbucks and sometimes coupons can be found for their make at home coffee in the Sunday paper.  I was delighted to find coupons for Michael’s craft store as well. These prove extremely useful since I spend lots of money there for kid’s projects and parties. This site matches coupons to savings each week so you can get the best deal, sometimes you can even get such a deep discount your items end up being free.

The whole idea behind couponing is to buy in bulk while items are on sale and create a stockpile. On Extreme Couponing, the reality show, this is done but they exaggerate a bit and it seems to border on hoarding. You can coupon, save and not hoard. It does take time to prepare for shopping trips though so it’s a good idea to set aside time if you want to accomplish a substantial savings. According to one site things go on sale every 12 weeks so you would buy a twelve week supply of the item, if it’s something you eat or use a lot, when it’s on sale thus created your own mini market.

Using coupons to the full sale potential is another important principal of couponing, so waiting until an item has gone on sale then using coupons is the idea. This is encouraged as the only way to coupon but it doesn’t have to be.  Another great way to save is through online shopping sites like Amazon which sell organic products in bulk at a great discount.  It’s probably best to look through all the advice and then develop your own couponing style since everyone’s needs and time constrains are different.

Coupon savings can be enormous often getting items for free with yearly savings in the thousands. With savings like this you can possibly be able to channel your groceries savings into paying off credit card debt, investing in college tuition or saving for retirement. We really need to rethink our money choices these days and try new ideas such as couponing to get the most out of our income.
