Pre-Art Basel Happenings in Wynwood
Yesterday we went down to Miami to check out some pre Art Basel happenings. We first went to see the new extension to the Wynwood Walls, “The Wynwood Walls Garden”. There are 14 new murals coming up by Logan Hicks, the London Police, Case, Crash, Cryptik, Pichi & Avo and few others as part of the”Walls of Change” project. The place was closed to the general public since the artists are still finishing the murals. Below are some pictures :
After the walls we headed over to across the street to Wood for their Sunday craft fair. It was packed with a nice looking crowd many with dogs in tow. We grabbed a some double vodkas and shopped a couple of cool vendors- Trinkets and Recycled Jude. I got a beautiful hand made clutch, ring and bracelet from Trinkets and a gorgeous paper Christmas tree from Recycled Jude.
We left Wood just as the vendors were wrapping up and headed over to Coyo for some delicious street style Tacos. The Al Pastor and Alambre choices were delicious!
Later we checked out the Talking Off The Wall meet and greet with Yuhmi Collective. There we had a nice talk with the artists and supported the cause by getting a few of their awesome T’s. It was held at Concrete Beach Brewery which has a tasty selection of brews. We had an Ipa and the Tropic of Passion both were quite delicious.
It’s was a great day just enjoying the calm before the storm. This week will start off slow with VIP openings on Tuesday then going into the weekend with tons of art events and parties. It gets bigger every year, some say too big at this point. This year we get to enjoy it all since were not working on any projects, well at the moment. So it should be another great year of Art Basel (or Miami Art Week as it’s called now) for the books!
