Highlights from Wynwood Art Walk March 10th 2012
If you want to see art during Art Walk it’s best to arrive as early as possible. As Wynwood and the Design District’s art walks gain popularity (as they have been for the last few years) it becomes difficult to see the art if you don’t get there when the galleries open around 5:00 pm. For those of you who actually go for the art and not the free food and booze offered during the event, the following are Saturday’s highlights.
Work by Nick Veasey was featured at new gallery Gregg Shienbaum Fine Art. This gallery offers gorgeous large windows through which Veasey’s X-Ray art could be easily spoted by art walkers. The x-ray art itself is extremely eye catching seemingly glowing and exposing the truth about its subject. The British artist uses his own x-ray machine to take pictures of humans, animals, plants even instruments. The product is a simple yet striking piece garnering universal attraction.
At Black Square Gallery the pieces by Aleksey Say not only are made out of Excel Spreadsheets but some select pieces create a visual illusion. At first sight the artwork almost looks like a collage but upon taking a closer view one sees the ever familiar characteristics of spread sheets.
Then to ones further amazement some of Say’s pieces create a picture not visible to the naked eye but when viewed through the lens of a camera scenes like one of the NY city skyline and another showing workers in an office space are revealed. Say’s work seems time intensive and just screams originality.
Going a little north to the Design District at the Primary Flights gallery we encounter an exihibit which is driven by the power of the word though art. Artist Jesse Nite expresses a woman’s empowerment sometimes sexual other times street brash thorough the display of words in different mediums. In one piece there is a bed which one can lie on and read the mirrored words above “Bad as I Wanna Be”. In another display of sculptures she expresses “Fuck you” in three different hand gestures, quite daring and interactive!
Arriving back at Wynwood around 11:30 pm all bets were off, the hordes of people had arrived making it difficult to see the art. At this time some of the galleries were still open but the music was blaring in the streets creating a street party atmosphere almost like Calle Ocho. Luckily catching a glimpse of some interesting art off of NE 25th St, this show expressed some strong political views. On display were pieces showing gaping bloody mouthed Cheney and Obama paintings and other low brow-ish pieces showing blank eyed characters with hovering octopuses which seem to express some sort of angst. Unfortunately the artist’s name was not listed at the exhibit.
Overall Artwalk in Miami still manages to impress with its show of original and talented artists. Just a reminder though it’s called Artwalk not drunken street party.

Howdy! Do you know if they make any plugins to help with SEO?
I’m trying to get my blog to rank for some targeted keywords but I’m not seeing very good gains.
If you know of any please share. Kudos!
