Create a Mother-Daughter at Home Spa Day

Create a Mother-Daughter at Home Spa Day

Sometimes it’s really hard to find something fun to do with kids while at home. Especially as we come to the end of summer since we have exhausted most every place and activity. So creativity is key!  Today we actually did something really fun, upon my daughter’s suggestion we had an at home spa day. Ours was more like a spa moment since we only spent a couple of hours preparing and executing.  It all turned out really great and it will go down as one of the magical moments between us.

As we prepared for our in home spa treatments I thought wow this could really become a sort of bonding ritual.  Every step was filled with girly fun! So how did we create a magical, fun and organic spa day? Check it out

We mixed our own facial mask and scrub out of the following organic ingredients. We even had a great time at the supermarket while we were shopping for the ingredients and other possible treatments in the beauty isle. We finally decided on all natural, homemade spa treatments since we have both have sensitive skin.

All natural facial mask

Facial Mask

2 tbsp Oatmeal

2 tbsp Greek Yogurt

4 drops Honey

A couple of cucumber slices for the eyes relaxes and soothes or

just to follow protocol! (kid’s love this)

Facial Scrub

Facial Scrub

2 tsp Brown Sugar

1 tsp Olive Oil

Make sure you get comfy and set the mood. Turn on some relaxing music, put on your robes and pull hair back. We made our bathroom the spa area.  We followed the next steps to for a perfect at home facial.

  1. Cleanse:  We used our existing cleansers.  My daughter uses Cetaphil recommended by her dermatologist for sensitive skin.
  2. Exfoliate:  Use the facial scrub above to gently scrub your face. I had my daughter very gently rub the scrub on her face then rinse with warm water.
  3. Steam: Boil water on stove, turn off the heat and place head carefully over steam using a towel over head to create a barrier this will open pores.
  4. Facial mask:  We put on our homemade mask and it was kind of funny because it was a little lumpy. My daughter said it looked like someone threw up on her face he, he. (OK a little gross but true)
  5. Moisturize: We use our existing moisturizers she uses the same brand as the cleanser, I used an anti wrinkle cream.

The results were wonderful our skin was smooth, soft and fresh and even better we really had a great time laughing and enjoying each other’s company.  Next time we’ll probably add mani-pedis to the treatments!
