Bird Road Art Walk In Miami on June 16th
Bird Road Art Walk occurs in an unsuspecting area in the middle of Miami in an industrial warehouse district off of SW 40th St. Art usually thrives in these types of places and according to their website the district has been in the works since the 80’s when artists started moving in. One still come across your typical cafeterias (pronounced in Spanish) and car repair shops between the art spaces. It was also voted best art walk in Miami which further peaked my curiosity and prompted me to take a trip to Miami.
We couldn’t find a lot of the galleries so my advise is download a map of the district on your phone and do your prior planning, since it’s quite dark and the galleries are spread out. Never the less we found some interesting galleries and artist’s studios just by driving around- there’s also a shuttle service provided. Overall it was quite charming and authentically Miami. There were a few murals right outside some of the galleries; it would be nice to see if more street art spurs in this area. The art created mostly by Latin American artists is displayed right in their working studio spaces, giving it an inviting homey vibe. The walk takes place third Saturday of the month south of Bird Road (SW 40 St) and just off of SW 74 & SW 75 Ave. Here is some of the artwork I encountered during the walk.
