Artists Paint Murals at the Miami Marine Stadium for Art History 2014
Last weekend something magical happened in Miami. Some very well know and established artists painted murals at the Miami Marine Stadium. It’s not the first time this occurs, it has actually happened a few times before, all thanks to Art History 2014, the National Trust and Friends of Miami Marine Stadium.
This time the artists included Jose Mertz, Reinier Gamboa, Logan Hicks, Tristan Eaton, Ron English, London Police, Luis Berros, and Crash. It was the perfect mix of art styles, local and national artists. The great Martha Cooper was there to document the whole thing via photographs.
The night before the murals were started there was an artist reception for the Art History 2014 gallery show where all the artwork from the project is currently being shown. The show features art at every price point including some originals and prints. In the show there were works by past Art History 2014 participants like Evoka1, Stinkfish, Abstrk and Elbow Toe. The proceeds from the work sold through this exhibit will benefit the renovation of The Miami Marine Stadium. The show will run through October at Gregg Shienbaum Fine Art in Wynwood.
A full weekend of painting at the stadium took place. As usual many people went to see what was going on from the press to families to individuals on their boats even some pets attended. In the end the murals completed were truly stellar. There were a few collabs between artists that really showed how art can bring people together, especially when it’s such a worthy cause.
This project is going to make a mark in Miami’s history and the history of art, architecture and preservation. To support the cause visit www.arthistory2014.com and purchase a print, go see the show in Wynwood or visit the show during Art Basel in December. Let’s preserve history and support the arts.
